On anxiety

Here I am rethinking my strategies to fight anxiety attack.

  1. Find joy in little things. They say depression makes nothing as enjoyable as it used to be. Continue to find joy in little things like fresh air, a little smile, an act of kindness, a pink drink for myself from Starbucks (if it helps with your mojo)

  2. Eat better. It’s so easy to relapse into eating junk food, or lose appetite at all, but continue to eat good protein like tofu, meat and fish. Balance it with fresh vegetables and fruits.

  3. Move. It could be a 30 seconds stretch, a walk, a jumping jack, or a 5 minute yoga, or a 30 minute rowing machine. Continue to move your body. It distracts you in a good way and clears your head.

  4. Do activities that will release oxytocin aka the happy hormone. It’s released when you feel happiness, or when you listen to your favorite music.

  5. Last but not least, I know this may no align with you, but for those of you Christians, continue to worship. Transcribe a page from the bible, sing along your favorite worship songs, follow Christian Instagram accounts for daily verses, but mostly, pray. Even when you can’t, pray with your sigh for God listens.

There is usually a trigger to your anxiety. When you feel it starts to engulf you, take these little steps. Fight back. Restore a sense of normalcy. You can’t win me, anxiety, I won’t give in.
